Laurie Anderson Homeland Tour
Sydney Opera House, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia
22nd of October 2007

Taper's notes:

I enjoyed the shows very much and I'm very glad I went to both nights. This show really grows on me with every time of hearing it again.

Laurie was also very well received in Sydney, I think she's got a very dedicated circle of fans here.

This was the second night of Laurie Anderson's Homeland at the Sydney Opera House.
The Sydney Opera House has 2 major performance venues, the Concert Hall in the left wing (looking from the side of the staircase) and the slightly smaller Opera Theatre in the right wing. Normally all concerts are performed in the Concert Hall, but these 2 shows
were performed in the Opera Theatre, which apparently has better acoustics than the Concert Hall.

Recorded from the 6th row, close to the right speaker stack with Churchsound Cardioid Microphone System STC-9000

Laurie Anderson words and music, vocals, one of a kind violin/viola, keyboards and samples
Eyvind Kang (viola)
Jamshied Sharifi (keyboards)
Skuli Sverrisson (bass, guitars)

The Flexible Orchestra
Homeland will be performed in various musical configurations. Recently I have been working with various small ensembles and this has made me value the flexibility of musical arrangements. As a consequence I am writing Homeland so it can be performed by various small ensembles which may change throughout various parts of a tour. In addition the piece can be expanded to include additional string and vocal sections such as Chirgilchin the Tuvan group I?m currently working with.
In many ways Homeland will be an addendum to the eight hour work I completed in 1983, United States. This is a work I have looked forward to for a very long time."

This what the "Babelogue" website has to say about
"New York 1975" :

Another version of Free Music Store (5/28/75
performance at the WBAI studio in NYC). Same song
order as above, but also includes the "Scheherazade"
rap and "Take This Woman To Be Your Wife", as well as
"Piss Factory" and "Horses" from Patti's early 1975
Central Park performance (see Live In London Smilin'
Ears album in vinyl list).

Together|The Hunter Gets Captured by the
Game|Birdland|Redondo Beach|Space Monkey|Snowball|
Distant Fingers|Break It Up|Gloria-Sheherazade|Aisle

The sound quality is better here, but for some reason,
"Break It Up" is cut short. The liner picture is a B/W
of Patti at the microphone.

Taper's Notes: From second-generation soundboard reel.
Sound quality is A-/B+. There is a small amount of
hiss. The mix is somewhat odd, with Morrison's vocals just in 1 channel.

Notes from the taper:

This, in my opinion, is the closest thing to a perfect Buzzcocks performance that I have heard.

The entire show is excellent. The closest thing to a problem in the performance is I Believe, and
it's the best version I've heard.

The final 8 minutes are absolutely stunning.

Notes from the taper:

These tracks, also known as the Axis Outtakes, nearly never made it past Kathy Etchingham's
dustbin. Luckily they were retrieved and ended up in an auction at Sotheby's in December 1981.

Since then they have turned up in various guises on collectors lists and of course have been

treated to the usual shabby mangling on various bootleg releases.

Over the years I've had various copies of these tracks from terrible to very good. These however are the best I have ever come across and were supplied to me by a very reliable source who told me he had managed to track down and obtain a dub from the masters on DAT. Given the quality I have no reason to doubt his claim.

The Bevis Frond -
Stoned Sound Driver

Date: Friday April 17, 1998
Event: Terrastock II
Venue: Custer Avenue Stages, San Francisco, CA, USA

01 - Intro Jam - Hole Song #2
02 - Wild Jack Hammer
03 - 'Terrible Feedback' - Stars Burn Out
04 - Stoned Train Driver
05 - Lights Are Changing
06 - Love Is
07 - New River Head
08 - Maybe
09 - Red Hair
10 - He'd Be A Diamond
11 - Well Out Of It
12 - Signed DC

I'd guess SBD due to quality and lack of audience

Aside from some technical problems which had nothing
to do with the band, and are overcome, I'd rate this
show an EX-, the first track aside. Starts out
extremely bass heavy, but the Stoned Sound Driver gets
it mostly together by the second tune. Have fun with
that EQ ;-) A great intro jam, which may have been
serving as a soundcheck, a positively funky version of
Wild Jack Hammer, and an all around great set.

The title is an obvious play on track 4, and can be
justified by the buried vocals in track 1 and the
band's need to restart track 3, as you shall hear. To
be fair, if Terrastock II was anything like the first
"happening" in Providence, RI, the year before, which
I was fortunate enough to attend, it's probably due to
a lack of a soundcheck, or at least an adequate one.
